Softie Windshield:

The Softie Windshield is a slip on open cell foam, with an integral fitted fur cover. The Softie will reduce wind noise and protect your microphone, and is the standard world-wide in TV. Available in a large range of sizes to fit most popular microphones.

A robust and practical windshield (70mm in diameter) performing as well as a standard windshield (without Windjammer).
* The Softie alone provides a fast, flexible and cost effective solution for ENG on camera microphones (see also Camera Mounted Softies).
* Constructed of an acoustic foam base covered by a specially designed synthetic fur fabric together with a separate shockmount with its own bracket and either pistol grip handle or boom adaptor.
* 30mm long fur, giving protection up to 25dB wind noise reduction.
* Available in a large range of sizes to fit most popular microphones.
* For camcorder users, if we do not have a suitable Softie we may also be able to provide a
Mini Windjammer.

 

Softie Mount:

The mount is a simple but effective. The mount comes in 3 sizes, dependant on the diameter of your microphone. The attachment below the mount is then determined by the intended use of the mount, for example Pistol grip handle, boom pole adaptor or the Multi Mount for use on a camcorders hotshoe.

The main component of the Softie mount is a one piece rubber (actual material: EPDM) diaphragm shockmount. This unit is extremely robust, and has been tested in all environment conditions to ensure it performs.

The Softie Mount comes in three sizes, depending on which microphone being used.
* Small Hole 19-20mm diameter
* Medium Hole 21-22mm diameter
* Large Hole 24-25mm diameter

The mounts are 58mm diameter x 56mm long, and support short to medium length shotgun microphones. Please use the "Quick Product Finder" to see what size you need for your mic. The Softie mount will only fit shotgun microphones, which are cylindrical in shape (the same diameter though their whole length). We can not mount microphones that taper, with the Softie mount.

The longest Softie Windshields we make have an internal bore of 32cm (12-1/2") - Example:AKG CK68 or Audio Technica AT815b. These are the longest microphones we would recomend using a Softie Mount for, simply because the mount is flexible & can not support longer mics. For longer mics, we would only recomend a Full Windshield System, and a Modular suspension.

The Softie Mount, used with the Softie Windshield provides a fast, flexible and cost effective solution for ENG on camera microphones (see also Camera Mounted Softies).
Softie Mount & Handle

This system will allow the user to either hold the mount with the pistol grip handle. Or attach it to a boom pole using the 3/8" Whitworth threaded insert in the base of the handle. This gives a very robust mounting system, which will be suitable for most situations.

Softie Mount CCA

The Softie CCA allows you to attach your shotgun microphone to camcorders fitted with a microphone clamp (25-27mm diameter) or a boom pole. The Softie mount provides isolation against lens motor noise and general handling noise.
* Suitable for: Sony HDR-Z1E, Canon XL1 & XL2 and many more.
* Note: The CCA replaced the Softie mount & Boom adaptor in February 2006.

Multimount v2

The Multimountv2 allows the user to fit the Softie mount to either a camcorder hot-shoe or to a boom pole with 3/8" Whitworth tip.

Note: The v2 version of Multimount replaces the old style of Multimount

 

 

Camera Mounted Softie:

Internally, exactly the same as our standard Softie Windshield, the Camera mounted Softie just has a shorter fur. The shorter fur allows the Softie to be mounted close to the camera lens without causing unwanted shadows.

* Specifically designed for camera-mounted microphones.
* Constructed of the same acoustic, open cell, reticulated foam and snug fitting end cap as all our Softies.
* Designed to avoid unnecessary shadows when working in camera-mounted conditions. Closely cropped dark   grey synthetic fur, just 10mm high, offers lower profile and a more compact design without severely altering the efficiency of the Softie.
* Available for the same range of microphones as all standard Softies windshields.
* Previously known as Short Haired Softies. All Camera mounted Softie sizes (see table), are also available in our standard length Softie fur (30mm). Please specify if you require long fur when ordering.
* For mounting your microphone on the camcorder we have the Multimount, which allows the Softie Mount to be fitted to the camcorders hot shoe.

Full Windshield Systems:

The full windshield system is made up of the following elements:
* Modular Suspension (shock mount)
* Modular Windshield (windscreen, blimp or zeppelin)
* Windjammer (furry cover)

Modular Suspension:

The Modular Suspension is a four point elastic suspension, which completely supports the microphone in a cradle arrangement. The suspension can be used as it comes, with a microphone using a foam gag, or in conjunction with a Windshield & Windjammer.

* Equipped with both a boom adaptor and a pistol grip handle and a range of clips and O-rings to provide a custom fit. The microphone clips supplied allow you to hold microphones with 19/20mm, 21/22mm, 24/25mm diameters and Sennheiser MKH mics too.
* Easy to customise the mount to accommodate different styles of use, including the use of foam gags, without obstruction.
* Three standard mono versions, each with a different length bar (1 module, 2 module and 3 module) but with all other components shared.
* Stereo suspensions available to fit a wide variety of stereo pairs, single shank stereo microphones, and stereo capsule microphones.
* Improved components make handling and usage easier in difficult conditions.
* Range of accessories available including the Connbox and the MS/XY Cage.

 

Modular Windshield or Windscreen:

Launched in March 2004 the Modular Windshield (zeppelin) is slid onto the Modular Suspension, and completely surrounds the microphone & its connector. It protects the microphone from the effects of wind, whilst causing the minimal effect to the sound.

Mono & Stereo Windshields
* Designed to provide significant improvement in exterior wind attenuation (up to 25dB).
* Manufactured from flexible grey plastic netting tube with a screening material attached by special process, providing lightweight strength and durability.
* Twist and turn locking end caps provide easy, rattle free and secure fastening.
* Unique slide-on/slide-off system allows easy removal of the microphone and suspension.
* Mono Windshields have an outside diameter of 100mm (4”), and stereo windshields are 145mm (5-3/4”). The microphone used determines the length of the Windshield.

Baby Ballgags
* Specially designed and constructed to offer the wind attenuation properties of a full sized windshield in a much smaller package.
* Perfect for lightweight, low profile boom applications as well as for use in hand held operations and interviews.
* Constructed of the same high quality material as all full size Rycote windshields and fitted with a grommet that grips the microphone body. The microphone is pushed through the grommet to completely enclose the microphone capsule allowing the microphone to be hand held, supported by clamp or in conjunction with our Softie shockmount.
* Available to fit 20mm, 22mm and 25mm microphone shanks.

 

 

Windjammer:

Also launched with the new Modular Windshield system the Windjammer is designed to fit over the Windshield to provide the highest possible protection against extreme wind.

* The most effective cover, providing 10 –12db extra protection over a standard Windshield.
* Made from specially designed and manufactured screening materials with virtually no adverse effect on sound level or quality.
* Fitted with a drawstring & toggle to allow snug and easy fitting.
* Available in sizes to fit all Mono & Stereo windshields, Softies & Baby Ballgags.
* The WJ4 will even fit the standard Sennheiser MZW-60/1 Windscreen.
